Melges 24 Guru Brian Hutchinson Tells All To Justin Chisholm In A Two Part Interview – Part 1


Fifty-two year old professional sailor Brian Hutchinson from Salt Lake City in Utah has been involved with the Melges 24 class since it’s very inception. Spend a few minutes chatting with him at a regatta and his enthusiasm for and unique insight into our class quickly shine through. As well as being one of the most sought after pro sailors on the international circuit, he is also a highly accomplished mathematician and has a successful career as an industrial designer and builder, producing a range of composite sports equipment including boats, bikes, battens and masts. Over the years he has been instrumental in numerous title-winning one-design campaigns but counts his 2003 Melges 24 World Championship victory with Shark Kahn as one of his most significant racing achievements.

Melges 24 North American Championship – Day 4 – Glorious Sun & Light Airs For Final Day


Its a glorious fall morning here in Rochester and we’re all set for a wonderful finale to our 2010 North American Championship.  We have up to three more races possible today and with only six points separating the top three boats its going to be an exiting finish.  The race committee has left the dock and we’re expecting light to moderate winds today – currently we have around 6 knots.

Melges 24 North Americans 2010 – Introducing Your Jury


Our events wouldn’t be possible without the volunteer support of our International Jury members.  They are some of the hardest working people at the events spending their days on the water judging and their evenings in the protest room resolving conflicts and we appreciate everything they do for us so we thought we should introduce you to our Jury team here in Rochester.  From left to right we have Leo Reise (Chairman), Elspeth Brewin, Lynn Beal, Joe Krolak, Rick Sullivan, Steve Wrigley, Larry Sill and George Hock

Melges 24 North Americans – Race 1 – Getting Underway


The RC is setting up to run race 1 so we are going to head out on the water and do our best to keep you updated from there.  We’re running with a smaller team than usual for this event so I’m afraid we won’t be able to bring you our usual blow by blow accounts but we’ll be updating with highlights as often as we can.
