Good morning from day 3 in Rochester. This morning we have overcast skies and the temperature is dropping but it’s still very pleasant and as the boats head out to the race course we have around 8 knots from the south. The forecast for today is a bit ambiguous depending on which forecaster you choose.

Its a balmy morning here in Rochester for day two of the North Americans we already have a nice breeze in the mid teens and the sun is shining. There’s a palpable air of anticipation on the dock as the crews prepare to go afloat since today’s forecast is for strong winds this afternoon and everyone is really looking forward to some classic Melges 24 high speed planing conditions. Rochester delivered in spades yesterday with four great opening races and at this morning’s skipper’s briefing PRO Hank Stuart advised the competitors that his plan for today is to try for up to three more races before the wind gets too strong this afternoon.

Congratulations to Race Committee member Wayne Bretsch who was the winner of today’s RC Sweepstake. Apparently while we were waiting for wind to build and stop going round in circles this morning the RC set up a sweep stake taking guesses on which direction the wind would finally settle in. Wayne’s guess proved to be most accurate at 165 degrees (in fact the course was set up at 170 degrees all day) and so he wins a bottle of fine Pinot Noir. We look forward to learning what the RC is betting on tomorrow morning

Good morning and welcome to day one of the 2010 Melges 24 North American Championship. This morning kicked off with the competitor briefing led by PRO Hank Stuart and right now the boats are making their way to the race course ready for the start of race one which is scheduled to kick off at 10am. The forecast today is for light winds from the East so we’re expecting a really challenging, tactical light airs day to get everyone into the swing.
